Ancien Vintage Elgin Hunter Gravé 1891
Up for sale is a Gorgeous Hunter Ex-Fine Antique Vintage Engraved Pocket Watch. This watch is stunning across the board. It’s a size 6, 3/4 plate, Class 56, Grade 118, 2nd model with 11 jewels. Quick Train and runs strong and keeps time well. Snow White Porcelain Style D 1 Dial, with Black Roman Numerals and deep blued spaded hands. I detected a very small hairline at 7 o’clock edge – barely noticeable. The serial # is 4,834,704 which dates the watch to 1891! The crystal is glass – it is original, clear, scratchfree and flawless. Three hinged covers are firm and open/close tightly as they should. Engraving on both front and back. Front cover has engraving of a bird – back cover has engraving of flowers. The inside of the case cover is marked FAHYS MONARCH No. I base this on the following. Fahys tended to use the word « MONARCH » for high grade cases. The lesser grades were marked « MONTAUK ». The « MONARCH » or higher grade cases were made with a thicker layer of gold, which tended to last longer and not wear through, thus showing the brass base. The engraving is quite deep in some places. This timepiece is a GEM. The watch is clean, shiny, dent-free scratchfree and works fine. I had the watch serviced, cleaned, and oiled. Exceptional for a watch that’s 128 years old! I have reduced the original asking price, due to some research that I’ve done that has given me a more accurate description to the attributes of the watch. Whoever buys this watch will not be disappointed. It will make a fantastic gift or keepsake and will make any watch collection a perfect asset. I have other pocket watches for sale – see my listings. All sales are FINAL.
