Étui de montre de poche ancien MONITEUR/Illinois rempli d’or gravé COW BOY art populaire
For sale is a vintage/antique « MONITOR » pocket watch casing. The case is gold filled, and marked simply MONITOR on the interior. The Monitor name was commonly used by the Illinois Watch Case Co and found in a number of brands of pocket watch. The casing is very pretty, thin, and has the name COW BOY engraved on the back, and E REED on the interior. The watch casing looks to be from the 1910s-30s era to me, as it has that thinner shape you see from later watches. The watch interior seems to have a diameter of ABOUT 37mm, so I’m guessing it’s an 8S casing. The casing shows some fill wear to the back edge and signs of use, but nothing that I would designate as abuse. Note that this the casing and winding crown only, I don’t have a movement or crystal. It’s a really unusual piece and the engraving is gorgeous and interesting. The engraving is so artistic that I would almost call it folk art. It would be a great addition to ANY collection!
