Ancien bracelet chérubin victorien en argent 1848-1860 avec pierres de cornaline
At that time Scotland became very fashionable in clothing, home decor and most importantly jewelry. Flexible bracelets, brooches and pins were all the fashion. These items were hand made using 18k gold or silver. The stones that were popular at that time were Smoky golden quartz from the Cairngorm mountains, carnelian, bloodstone, jasper, moss agate and enamel. The romantic nature of the victorians identity was motifs of chrubs, bouquet. Of flowers, branches, leaves, grapes, snakes and serpents were used and carved by hand. The natural motif of gardens and branches are found throughout this victorian bracelet and in the back is the romantic scene of two cherubs holding an ornate frame, maybe a frame were two monograms that were to be one might have been housed. The front of the bracelet holds three nice size carnelian stones. I was surprised to know that this stone has historical attachment to. Zodiac stones such as Aries, Taurus, cancer and Leo (no wonder I was so drawn to it). This stone also known for many other things such as confidence, protection of negative emotions, creativity, to increase physical energy and success in ones career. The bracelet is made out of real silver although at the time of this era there was no hallmark stamp required, but given the era, the craftsmanship and the stones I do not see how it could be anything other. I was fortunate to obtain several pieces of jewelry from the same owner and all the pieces date back from this era to the 1920’s. Please also note I have cleaned it with a silver cloth.. I know I probably should not of but it was so beautiful that I wanted to see it shine a bit. If you have any further questions regarding this precious bracelet please do not hesitate to contact me.
